Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC)
CSI Pacific’s Mental Health and Mental Performance staff are trained as Certified Mental Performance Consultants® and in good standing with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association. These individuals have obtained objective validation of their expertise in helping clients develop and use mental, life, and self-regulatory skills to optimize performance, enjoyment, and/or personal development in sport. CMPC’s are individuals with a master’s or doctoral degree in sport science/ psychology and have completed an extensive, mentored applied experience.

High Performance Certification
The High Performance Certified (HPC) membership signifies the qualifications and competencies required for sport scientists to uphold standards and enhance the daily training environment (DTE) of high-performance sport in Canada. The certification is designed to help NSOs of industry leading standards for skillful, qualified practitioners who deliver safe and effective service to athletes and coaches.

Our Practitioners
Dr. Sharleen Hoar

Sharleen Hoar (PhD., Certified Mental Performance ConsultantR, High Performance Sport Scientist Canada Certified) holds role of Lead, Mental Performance at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. She also holds the role of Lead, of Mental Performance and Mental Health, for Sport Scientist Canada High Performance Advisory Council. Sharleen works as a mental performance consultant for Cycling Canada and Paratriathlon Olympic/Paralympic team athletes, coaches, and sport science and medical professionals. Sharleen attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Pan American Games, and supported clients through four Olympic/Paralympic games including the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver (Canada) and Sochi (Russia), as well as the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Tokyo (Japan).
Sharleen received a Ph.D. in Sport & Exercise Psychology from the University of British Columbia, a M.Sc. in Applied Sport Psychology from University of Idaho and is an Affiliate Associate Professor with University of Victoria (Victoria, BC). Sharleen continues to be an active post-secondary instructor, teaching applied sport psychology in Graduate Studies and serving in supervisory/examiner roles on Graduate Student projects. She is a research collaborator in the areas of emotion-regulation, the science of practice, and performance recovery with high performance athletes and coaches. Sharleen serves her profession on a number of committees including: Past-Chair of Managing Council and Lead, Certification Committee for Canadian Sport Psychology Association; and Co-Chair of Application Review Committee on the CMPC Certification Council. Sharleen is a professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association, Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and International Society for Sport Psychology.
Christie Gialloreto

Christie is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® working with the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific; a Canadian Certified Counsellor (Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association); a Registered Psychologist (College of Alberta Psychologists) and a Certified High-Performance Practitioner by Sport Scientist Canada. She has been a member of Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) since 2000 and has served as the British Columbia Regional Representative (2020-2023), the Supervision Sub-Committee Chair and current member (2021-2023), is a Professional member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and the Canadian Psychological Association.
She holds a Master of Science in Athletic Counselling from Springfield College, MA., and has supported individuals and teams in all competitive levels including recreational, professional to Olympic (2014, 2018, 2020) and Paralympic (2022). Most recently she was able to attend and serve the Team Canada athletes at the Tokyo Olympics (Rowing Canada) and the Beijing Paralympics (Canada Snowboard). Christie also serves as an external consultant with the Pacific Institute of Sport Education (PISE) in Victoria, working with athletes and performers within the local community.
Christie continues to enjoy networking and learning through continuing education opportunities in areas such as Mental Health First Aid for Youth, Thought Technology Biofeedback, CBT, Anxiety, Depression, Grief work, QPR, Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence, Positive Psychology, Critical Incident Debriefing, Safe Sport and attending industry conferences.
Dr. Lauren McBride, R.Psych

Lauren McBride, Ed.D., is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia and a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) based in Vancouver, BC.
Dr. McBride currently holds a part time position as the Lead Mental Health Practitioner for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific). In this role she supports the Institute and Institute Partners to increase mental health literacy and connect National Team athletes to appropriate resources to support their mental health needs.
Dr. McBride is also an approved practitioner with the Game Plan Mental Health Network, a Canada-wide network of mental health practitioners capable of providing sport-specialized care to Canada’s high-performance athletes and coaches. She had the privilege to support Canadian Team Athletes at the 2014 Winter Games held in Sochi, Russia.
Dr. McBride practiced as a Staff Psychologist at the University of British Columbia, Counselling Services, for over a decade and currently holds the role of Associate Director, Clinical. As part of her role at UBC she provides mental health and mental performance support to Varsity Athletes. Her background in both sport and counselling psychology provides a unique perspective to the concerns of student-athletes.
Dr. McBride is a professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association and the Canadian Psychological Association. Dr. McBride is also certified in Biofeedback through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) and is a certified High-Performance Practitioner by Sport Scientist Canada.
Dr. McBride holds an Ed.D. in Counselling Psychology with a Sport Psychology specialization from Boston University and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Western Washington University’s Counseling Center as well as a post-doctoral internship at the University of British Columbia’s Counselling Services. She also received her Ed.M. in Counseling Psychology, with a Sport Psychology specialization from Boston University.
Alex Hodgins

Alex is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) based in Vancouver BC. He holds a Master of Human Kinetics degree from the University of Ottawa, as well as a High Performance Certification with Sport Scientist Canada.
Alex specializes in both individual and team performance, as well as leadership and culture development. He was the mental performance lead for the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team for two quadrennial cycles, culminating in a gold medal performance in Tokyo. He now works primarily with the Vancouver Canucks and the Canadian Ski Cross Team. He is a lifelong learner, constantly trying to expand his skill set in the mental performance space to help support athletes in performing their best within every sporting context.
Alex is a professional member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) as well as the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA).
Geoff Hackett

Geoff is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) based in Nanaimo, BC. At the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, Geoff works with National, Jr. National, and Provincial athletes helping the prepare and perform in international and national competitions. In addition to CMPC role at CSI Pacific, Geoff supports the System Enhancement side of the organization, where he leads coach development programs with PacificSport Vancouver Island and assists with the delivery of athlete development programs across British Columbia. He is a learning facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and the Canadian Center for Mental Health and Sport (CCMHS).
Geoff holds a Master’s of Human Kinetics in Sport Psychology from the University of Windsor and holds High Performance Certification with Sport Scientist Canada. He is a member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA), where he sits on the Professional Development Committee.
Outside of his work at CSI Pacific, Geoff enjoys coaching (and playing) soccer, fishing, skiing, and spending time outdoors with his family.
Andrei Mandzuk

Andrei is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC). At the Canadian Sport Institute – Pacific, Andrei works with Whistler based athletes and teams, helping them to prepare and perform in provincial, national, and international competitions. In addition to his CMPC role at CSI Pacific, Andrei is a Faculty Member in the Sport Science department at Douglas College where he instructs undergraduate courses in sport psychology and coaching, a Coach Developer with Climbing Escalade Canada and viaSport BC, and an Assistant Climbing Coach for both The Richmond Oval and Climbing Escalade Canada.
Andrei holds an Undergraduate Degree in Sport Science, and a Masters Degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology – both from Bangor University. He is currently a Professional Doctorate student in Elite Performance at the University of Central Lancashire where he is conducting research into the psychological characteristics of high-performance climbers. In addition, he is a Professional Member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association, High Performance Certified by Sport Scientist Canada, and a Founding Member of the International Association of Psychologists in Climbing.
Outside of work, Andrei spends his free time outside – rock climbing, skiing, trail running, paddling, mountain biking, and camping his way around British Columbia.
