Our Commitment to Safe Sport
CSI Pacific understands that safe and inclusive sport environments are performance enhancing. Athletes who feel safe in all aspects of sport will have autonomy to push the envelop of performance. CSI Pacific will continue to uphold values of dignity, respect and fairness to foster a safe environment for all through gender equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility policies, program and activities.
The Canadian Safe Sport Program
Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) has adopted the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP), which is in effect as of April 1, 2025.
Through the CSSP Rules, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) independently administers the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) for federally funded, national-level sport organizations by receiving and responding to reports of prohibited behaviour, and by developing and carrying out education, prevention, and policy activities.
The CSSP Rules clearly and publicly set out how that will be done, including defined timelines at each stage of the reporting process. The CSSP also offers support services to connect participants with help along the way.
How To Report
There are two mechanism that process reports of Maltreatment or Code of Conduct violations. Not sure where to file? Don’t worry, the Independent Third Party or CCES will support navigation of this.
CCES
As of April 1, the CCES will accept reports through an online report form and by phone for individuals who are CCES registrants –no matter where you report, both methods allow you to remain anonymous if you wish. If you choose to share your name when you make a report, the CCES will not share it with your sport organization unless it is necessary to keep you or someone else safe, and will make every effort to get your consent beforehand.
For CCES registrants:
Report online: https://cces.ca/report-safe-sport
Report by phone: 1-833-858-CSSP (2777)
Independent Third Party, ITP Sport
For any matters not heard by the CCES, the ITP will will accept reports through an online report form. You may remain anonymous if you wish. If you choose to share your name when you make a report, the ITP will not share it with your sport organization unless it is necessary to keep you or someone else safe, and will make every effort to get your consent beforehand.

SafeZone
CSI Pacific is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in sport delivery within CSI Pacific and our partners. To support this commitment, CSI Pacific is pleased to introduce SafeZone, a resource designed to help participants, support teams, administrators, and staff navigate concerns, conflicts, and the complaint process.

Whether you are an athlete, coach, official, or organization representative, SafeZone offers personalized support to help you understand your options and take confident steps forward.

For Participants
SafeZone is here to help you understand your options before deciding to file a

- What does the complaint process look like within the sport or CSI Pacific?
- How do I know whether my issue should be addressed by the sport organization or by CSI Pacific?
If you are unsure about what to do next, you can reach out to SafeZone to share your concerns, explore options, and gain clarity without fear of judgment.
For Club Representatives
CSI Pacific staff play a critical role in CSI Pacific’s safe sport system. SafeZone is available to provide support with:

- Navigating complex issues within the discipline process, including items to consider before implementing decisions.
- Interpreting policies and processes to ensure they align with CSI Pacific’s expectations.
Our goal is to equip you with the confidence to manage situations effectively and escalate appropriately when necessary.

What is safe sport?
“Safe Sport” ensures that environments in which staff interact for the purposes of sport are free of maltreatment, and are supported by and uphold behaviours defined in the BC Universal Code of Conduct (BC UCC). CSI Pacific is committed to upholding SafeSport standards as a requirement of both provincial and federal funding.
CSI Pacific has signed onto the Responsible Coaching movement which seeks that staff:
- Have appropriate background screening and criminal record checks
- Uphold the “rule of two”, where athlete interactions with adults are open and observable and involve other staff to be present.
- Have completed necessary training in ethics, safe sport, and/or the prevention of child abuse.
All CSI Pacific staff have completed commit to kids training.
- Read the BC UCC (British Columbian Universal Code of Conduct)
- Read about the Responsible Coaching Movement
Reporting Maltreatment
Any person who observes or has a suspicion of maltreatment, and/or believes that observed or suspicious behaviours are in violation of the BC UCC should be directed to the Provincial Safe Sport investigatory mechanism. Staff and clients are also encouraged to contact the Canadian Sport Helpline 1-888-83SPORT (1-888-837-7678) if they observed, and/or have a suspicion of, maltreatment during their CSI Pacific duties.
External clients who believe CSI Pacific staff are in violation of the BC UCC or UCCMS should consult the Canadian Sport Helpline, and appropriate National or Provincial investigative mechanism. If third party investigative mechanism does not exist, external complaints should be reported to their sport organization and CSI Pacific.
