Erin Attwell
Athlete of the Month Q&A
Name:
Erin Attwell
Sport:
Cycling, Track – Women’s Team Pursuit
Favourite Gym/Pre-Game/Competition Song:
I don’t have a specific one at the moment but I’ve been loving listening to Tate McRae, and got to support a Canadian artist!
Favorite sport memory or achievement:
It has to be winning a bronze medal at a home Nations Cup in Milton last year. It was close between us and the US and we managed to squeeze out the States, they blew up and we had a clean ride winning us bronze. The celebration after felt sooooo good!
Who is someone who has positively impacted your sport career?
So many strong women have impacted my career in various ways over the years. I have been incredibly privileged to be surrounded by women from all sports and disciplines, just to name a few, Caileigh Filmer, Kristen Kit, Annie Foreman-Mackey, Allison Beveridge, Georgia Simmerling, Celina Toth, Haley Smith, Alison Syder, Laura Brown…. The list really does go on and on. They all have provided me with valuable guidance, support, and knowledge at various points in my athletic career.
What are your hobbies or passion outside of sport?
I love baking. I haven’t had enough time in the lead up to the Paris Olympics but I can’t wait to get back to it this fall!
What does it mean to you to be an athlete and have a balanced life outside of sport? What has helped you create this balance?
I really try to find balance outside of sport but it becomes increasingly hard the closer I get to the competition season. During off season I try to make time to have regular dinners with family and friends. I try to plan gym workouts with teammates and friends and I like to switch up my endurance training so I can do more hiking instead of riding. During the season I have to be much more deliberate with my social schedule but it’s something I definitely try to plan into my schedule. I find that in order to stay mentally fresh and ready I need those people around me to have fun with!
