The University of Victoria is advancing its partnership with the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) by inviting them to work on campus starting in Fall 2024, increasing opportunities to provide athletic supports and training and to deepen research in applied sport science and active health.

CSI Pacific will move into dedicated and shared space in the McKinnon building where they will be able to work closely with the UVic School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE) and Athletics and Recreation Services (ATRS).

The key areas of focus for the partnership include:

  • providing athlete services and supports in coaching, sport science and sport medicine
  • creating an experiential education pathway within EPHE, in collaboration with ATRS, to train both sport scientists and coaches—including strength and conditioning coaches
  • advancing research in applied sport science and active health within EPHE
UVic

To create space for the work ahead, the fitness weight room and dance studio in the basement of the McKinnon Building will be closing as of April 11, 2024. Current users of the fitness weight room at McKinnon are encouraged to use the state-of-the-art facilities at CARSA. Programs normally scheduled in the dance studio will be relocated, where possible. Further information will be provided as the project progresses.
