Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is thrilled to announce Trent Stellingwerff has been promoted to the newly created position of Chief Performance Officer (CPO), a strategic role designed to lead and enhance athlete performance initiatives within the organization. With a distinguished background in sport science, Trent has been a key figure in the CSI Pacific team, bringing years of expertise in research, performance physiology, and high-performance sport.

As a world-renowned sport scientist, Trent has been part of the CSI Pacific family since 2011, when he was originally recruited by the late Dr. Gord Sleivert and hired as a Senior Physiologist to support the sport of Rowing.  Over the following 13 years, Trent’s role has evolved over time at our Institute working as both a sport scientist, avid researcher and sport leader, including serving as Senior Advisor, Research & Development with great impact both internally and externally.

Trent’s contributions to CSI Pacific and his extensive experience in the national and international sport landscape make him uniquely positioned to guide the organization’s athlete development strategies. With a career dedicated to integrating scientific principles into elite sport, Trent’s leadership will focus on advancing the performance support network for athletes and coaches, ensuring CSI Pacific’s continued commitment to excellence.

In his new role, Trent will work closely with CSI Pacific’s CEO, Wendy Pattenden, to drive forward the Institute’s mission of empowering Canadian athletes to achieve their highest potential. Together, they will lead CSI Pacific into an era of performance innovation and continued growth, setting new standards in sport support and development for athletes across Canada.

Most recently, Trent led several critical special projects for the Institute such as: his collaborative research with Harvard University on Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs); the incredible partnership with lululemon on Project Further; and the innovative joint initiative with Israel Premier Tech professional cycling team, with a focus on overseeing nutrition support and future applied sport research projects. All three of these collaborative projects have greatly enhanced our Institute’s global reputation in applied sport science research.

Trent will be the first CPO in CSI Pacific’s history.  Trent’s new role will be focused on continuing with his great work on innovative special projects that impact performance, as well as enhancing our overall sport technical leadership within the Institute, both internally and externally. Trent will report directly to CEO Wendy Pattenden.

“We are investing in our technical leadership and overall executive bench strength at our Institute with this newly created position of Chief Performance Officer. Trent is a natural-born leader that will excel with immediate impact in this new role.  This step completes our executive restructuring, complementing our announcement last month on Kam Loodu’s promotion to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer.  Our executive team is now set up for success to drive forward and operationalize our strategic priorities for the Institute into the future.”

Wendy Pattenden, CEO CSI Pacific
