WHISTLER, BC – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is proud and excited to announce our brand new High Performance Centre Outdoor Fitness Expansion at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre.  This project has been completed in partnership with Whistler Sport Legacies.

The outdoor surface expansion project that utilizes rubber from recycled BC Tires was completed in July 2020 and is ready for use.

Tire Stewardship TSBCThis project will provide Canada’s elite athletes and coaches that train with CSI Pacific in Whistler with additional space for daily training and sport development. This additional space and new surface will allow CSI Pacific to help Canada’s athletes continue to achieve global success at the Olympics and Paralympics, now and in the future.

In early 2020, CSI Pacific broke ground on the construction of the expansion project located adjacent to the gym facility at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre. After months disrupted work due to COVID-19, construction has finally completed. CSI Pacific is excited for this new expansion as it will allow for more training opportunities for organization as well as for the public.

This project uses rubber from BC recycled tires to make an environmentally friendly and sustainable surface. Marathon Surfaces, the supplier of the rubber materials, is a 14mm, provided Spurtan BV which is a 14mm, two-layer sandwich style polyurethane track system. The base layer consists of a black mat of SBR rubber granules, bound in polyurethane, with a thin seal coat. The surface layer is a fluid applied polyurethane topcoat with a dense matrix of broadcast EPDM rubber granules.

Our new Outdoor Fitness Expansion was completed using 12,400 lbs of British Columbia rubber from recycled tires. This environmentally friendly surface material was chosen due the fact that it allowed us to incorporate sustainable materials into the project.

CSI Pacific would like to thank our funding partners for supporting us throughout this project:  Tire Stewardship BC and Real Estate Association of Whistler.
