CSS Victoria is up and running with twenty-seven student-athletes from the Greater Victoria area

Canadian Sport School Victoria (CSS Victoria) is pleased to announce that it will be returning for the 2020-21 school year with 27 student-athletes attending.

The Canadian Sport School, which is a program of Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, will be entering its tenth year of operation and was delayed by one month for this year in order to ensure new safety measures have been implemented with regards to COVID.

The class for 2020-21 includes 13 new students and 14 returnees, two of whom are in their third year at CSS Victoria. Students range from grades 10-12 from 10 different schools across the Capital Regional District (CRD).

This year’s cohort of student-athletes represents 13 different sports, from Artistic Gymnastics to Weightlifting, with eight students as dual-sport athletes.

Just one of this year’s standouts, returning student Olivia Boulding, a grade 11 student from Claremont who is in her second year at CSS Victoria, is partaking in the first ever National Excellence Program for Volleyball at the Richmond Oval.

Some of the safety precautions being implement for this year due to COVID-19 include: Daily temperature checks and screening for the student-athletes; Smaller training groups (maximum eight athletes); All coaches wearing masks; and, Cleaning stations at each training station.

Other operational changes for 2020-21 include: All academics being taught virtually; Strength days will take place at Transform Sports in Saanich instead of at PISE, as in previous years; Gymnastics is weekly instead of bi-weekly, and will take place at Inspire Sports; and, Sprint training is weekly instead of bi-weekly, at will take place at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific’s Victoria campus at PISE.
