(Victoria, BC – Feb 26, 2026)
With the completion of 2026 Olympic Winter Games, the best athletes in world in their respective sports showcased their incredible talents on the world stage. For athletes to get to the levels needed to compete at the Olympic Games, countless hours of training and preparation is required. While specialization may become necessary at later stages of elite performance, a diversified sporting background equips athletes with a wider toolkit to handle the complex demands of high-performance sport, supporting both performance potential and long-term wellbeing.
Multi-sport development plays a critical role in preparing athletes to perform at the highest levels of sport. Skills such as balance, coordination, and agility are transferable across sports and underpin long-term athletic development. It can also reduce the risk of burnout and overuse injuries associated with early specialization, helping athletes sustain engagement and progress across developmental stages.
CSI Pacific supports this approach with the delivery of the Canadian Sport School (CSS) across four campus locations in BC. There have been many athletes that have passed through the Canadian Sport School program since its inception in 2011.
A recent graduate of the CSS program in Victoria, Amelia Wells, who represented Canada on the international stage in Cross Country Skiing at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games. In addition to Amelia, Meryeta O’Dine and Evan Bichon, members of Canada Snowboard’s Olympic roster attended the Canadian Sport School in Prince George in recent years as well.
CSS helps alleviate the pressures of balancing athletics and academics to ensure the student athletes have all the skills and resources needed to continue to progress as high performance athletes, while excelling both on the playing field and in the classroom. The focus of the program provides opportunities for athletes to develop their strength training, balance and coordination, and sprint training as areas to develop multi-sport athletic abilities that complement their sport specific training.
