The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific wrapped up its second of two Athlete Advance events on Saturday at the University of British Columbia.

Athlete Advance is designed to help educate and inspire British Columbia’s future and current Olympic, Paralympic, and World Championship athletes in their quest for podium performances. In 2017, the Institute split its marquee event for athletes into two locations, making it more accessible to athletes across the province.

Former Vancouver Whitecaps FC team captain Jay DeMerit keynoted Athlete Advance YVR where he spoke about his rise from small town soccer player to leading a team to a promotion in the English Premiere League. Among the other presenters was Olympic bronze medallist Brent Hayden, who shared details on career transitions and the launch of his new clothing company Astra Athletica.
