Hi, I’m Elias Hancock, a Rugby 7s athlete and Game Plan Ambassador.

Rugby has shaped so much of who I am. It has taught me the importance of commitment, community, and giving back to the people and places that support you along the way. Alongside my own journey in the sport, coaching has become one of the ways I stay connected and help support the next generation of athletes.

For me, being a Game Plan Ambassador is about sharing the lessons sport has taught me, both on and off the field. It is about encouraging athletes to think beyond performance, build strong support systems, and stay connected to who they are outside of sport.

My goal is to keep progressing, keep representing my community with pride, and keep helping create spaces where athletes feel supported, confident, and inspired to chase what’s next.

For my March feature month, I shared three posts that give a closer look at my life in sport, the experiences that have shaped me, and the values that matter most to me as a CSI Pacific Athlete Ambassador and Game Plan Ambassador.

In my first post, I shared how my time as a student-athlete helped shape who I am today and led to helping create the Black Student-Athlete Advocacy Council. That work came from wanting to build a space where Black and Indigenous student-athletes could feel supported, connected, and understood.

In my second post, I shared a behind-the-scenes look at a training day in Uruguay and what it means to show up for the people around you. Rugby has taken me to a lot of places, but what matters most is the relationships built along the way, the teammates who become family, and the environment we create together.

In my final post, I shared what recovery looks like behind the scenes. Taking care of your body, managing load, and respecting recovery are all part of staying healthy, consistent, and safe in sport.

These posts are important to me because they show that sport is about more than performance. It is about community, leadership, recovery, and creating spaces where athletes feel supported on and off the field.
