Apex, BC – Under sparkling blue skies, Canada’s best mogul skiers took to the Apex slopes for Canadian Senior National Championships this weekend.

Andi Naude, of Pentiction BC, defeated Olympian Audrey Robichaud (Quebec City, QC) to take home the Gold Medal and the right to be named 2014 Canadian Woman’s Singles Mogul Champion. In third place was Kiera Leung (Coquitlam, B.C.)

“Winning in front of my home-town crowd was beyond amazing,” admitted Penticton’s Naude. “As soon as I dropped into my run, I heard the crowd roar, which was amazing, but I was in the zone. On my first jump I pulled a pretty big 360, skied out clean, then I focused on being forward, and over my toes. My second jump was a giant layout – and then I skied across the finish. I was totally not expecting it when they announced I was in first place. It was total disbelief. And then doing it all in front of local folk – that’s extra special.”

In Men’s Singles action, in a replay of what has been a season-long game of cat and mouse, Gold Medalist Alex Bilodeau (Rosemere QC) defeated FIS Grand Prix Champion Mikaël Kingsbury (Deux-Montagne, QC) to become the 2014 Canadian Men’s Singles Moguls Champion. In third place was Simon Lemieux.(Repentigny, QC)

Duals took place on Sunday with Robichaud and Naude exchanging positions. In third spot was Alex-Anne Gagnon (Terrebonne, QC).

On the Men’s side, five of the top six were from Quebec. Kingsbury took home the Gold adding yet another title to his 2014 FIS Grand Prix World Cup Crystal Globe. Kerrian Chunlaud (Sainte-Foy, QC) came second with Simon Lemieux taking third.

The weekend was capped-off with an end of year banquet and speeches from our Olympians sharing their wisdom with the next generation of freestyle skiers. “No one,” said Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Alex Bilodeau, “can be a champion alone. It takes family, friends, coaches and so much more.”

“But don’t forget to dream,” Maxime Dufour-Lapointe said, adding to the night’s inspirational words. “Then dedicate yourself to that dream. With hard work, everything is possible!”
