VANCOUVER – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) would like to congratulate the athletes, coaches and support staff from British Columbia, as well as the entire Canadian Olympic Team, for an outstanding performance at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

British Columbia-linked athletes came home from the Games with eight medals, winning 32 per cent of the Canadian Olympic Team’s total medal haul for a total of two gold, five silver and one bronze.

41 athletes who live or train in B.C. competed at the Games in 14 different disciplines, accounting for 19 per cent of the Canadian Olympic Team.

Medallists who live and/or train in BC include (in chronological order of achievement):

  • Kevin Reynolds, Coquitlam – figure skating – silver (team event)
  • Denny Morrison, Fort St. John – speed skating – silver (1000 metre); bronze (1500 metre)
  • Jessica Hewitt, Kamloops – short track speed skating – silver (3000 metre relay)
  • Mike Riddle, Squamish – men’s ski halfpipe – silver
  • Marielle Thompson, Whistler – women’s ski cross – gold
  • Kelsey Serwa, Kelowna – women’s ski cross – silver
  • Jamie Benn, Victoria; Dan Hamhuis, Smithers; Duncan Keith, Penticton; Carey Price, Anahim Lake; and Shea Weber, Sicamous – men’s ice hockey – gold

BC athletes will also represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from March 7 to 16.
