Mental Health and Mental Performance at CSI Pacific

For sport groups that are interested in group service delivery, individual service delivery, and performance focused solutions, CSI Pacific provides mental performance services in three primary areas: Mental Fitness, Mental Health, Culture. Below is an outline of the services that are available for athletes, coaches, and sport performance staff of national sport organization partners. These services can be delivered online, in person, and in the Daily Training Environment (DTE).

This is a description of how we offer services to our sport partners. All our service delivery is periodized and targeted to our sport’s needs. There are varying levels of service delivery that range from least engagement to most engagement. Types of Services

Mental Health

Education

Education on Mental Health involves workshops and information on mental health literacy, information on different resources and education opportunities from Game Plan, the national career transition and support services program for National Team athletes.

Services offered:

  • Game Plan (high performance, lifestyle, and wellness skills)
  • Mental Health Hygiene & regular monitoring
  • Seeking Help: Continuum of Care information
  • Safe sport practices (including concussion and travel illness safety)

Interventions

Interventions for Mental Health services are limited, with most work done involving intake screening for referrals.

Services offered:

  • Clinical Screening toolbox for referrals
  • Mental Health protocols: Triage process, RTS
  • Continuum of Care: Practitioner referrals

Resources

Resources include connections to third party organizations that are subsidized by the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP).

Private services:

  • Canadian Sport Psychology Association

Mental Fitness

Education

Education on Mental Fitness involves service in key areas related to the Gold Medal Profile for Sport Psychology. This can include areas related to Mental Fitness topics related to the GMP, and self-regulation training in biofeedback, neurofeedback, and mindfulness.

Services offered:

  • On demand videos on topics related to GMP sport psychology
  • Group workshops on GMP topics
  • Assignments related to GMP topics to test understanding

Interventions

Interventions for Mental Fitness can fall into three different categories depending on the need from the NSO. Options vary in their integration with IST members and NSO staff.

Services offered:

  • Individual consultations – MPC work directly with athletes from NSO
  • Group service delivery: NSO lead, coach collaboration
  • Solution focused delivery: IST collaboration
  • Self-Regulation tools: biofeedback, neurofeedback, and mindfulness training
  • Athlete assessment: TOPS, PCDEQ

Resources

Resources involve the following:

  • Infographics on the Athlete Performance Points page on the CSI website
  • Videos, certificate programs and Miniseries on the On Demand Speaker Series page on the CSI website
  • Source MPC services who don’t qualify for service delivery

Culture

Education

The MHPP team can provide education on the following within the IST/DTE environment. This can include the following topics:

  • Safe Sport practices (i.e., concussion management, return to sport, inclusive environments)
  • Communication and Team Dynamic Education
  • Leadership Development (Self & Other)

Interventions

The MHPP team can provide interventions within the context of need from the NSO. These interventions involve the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Support future directions from third party recommendations (i.e., OTP or ITP)
  • Provide strategies to build the DTE environment that support effective culture change
  • Work with coaches and IST members to optimize desired culture practices

Resources

Culture Wellness Audit by Own the Podium (OTP):

  • NSO application to OTP
  • Cultural Wellness Facilitator is assigned to NSO
  • Culture audit completed by facilitators
  • Recommendations provided to NSO on future directions
